When I was 16, my first real paid job was working behind the Concession counter selling candy and popcorn at the Plaza. The year was 1964, and I remember that they were showing "The Ten Commandments" there. I was so impressed, because it was the very first movie I had ever seen that was so long that it actually had an intermission. I think I actually fell in love with Charlton Heston during the run of that film. I would always have a new batch of popcorn popped and start pouring the drinks slightly before the intermission so that they would be ready when all the moviegoers started gathering into the lobby.
I remember how beautiful the stars looked as they kept blinking in the sky inside the theatre. It was so easy to believe that you were sitting outside looking up at a gorgeous starry night, as all the while a lovely movie entertained you. |
