The Plaza Theatre was always a grand place to see a movie in the late 40's and 50's. The biggest occasion was probably the world premiere of the film "El Paso" staring John Payne, Gail Russell, Sterling Hayden and Gabby Hayes. All the stars were there in person and we were there with our favorite gal friends. .It was quite a spectacle because to my knowledge, there had not ever been a world premiere there. As teenagers we would all race in to see who could sit in the extra seat that was fashioned for the tallest man in the world, El Paso's own Jake Earlich. Tex Ritter wold also perform there and ride his faithful steed White Flash across that magnificent stage. The interior of the theatre was a magical place, and to us it was like a king's palace. I had always hoped that this special place would be saved and my prayers have now been answered. At one time my family was associated with the Lee Moore and John MacGuire family, and I am so happy that Betty was honored for her generosity at the opening.
